Pastoral Care

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.” -Romans 12:15

We believe that the Church is here for people not only on Sundays, but throughout life’s joys and challenges.

Whether you are celebrating the birth of a child, preparing for marriage, coping with illness or bereavement, or simply looking for someone to talk to, we are here to support you with prayer, friendship and practical care.

Whatever stage of life you are in, you will always find a warm welcome at St John’s. If we can support you in any way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

If you would like to speak to the Rector, please contact the Parish Office for an appointment, or for just a quick word, you can chat with him over a cuppa after Sunday service.

Home Visits and Holy Communion

If you or someone you know is unable to attend church because of illness, age or mobility, members of our pastoral team are happy to visit at home or in hospital.

We can also bring Holy Communion to those who would like to continue sharing in the sacrament while unable to attend church.

Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to arrange a visit.

Baptism

Baptism marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith and welcomes a child or adult into the family of the Church.

If you are thinking about baptism, we would be delighted to talk with you. The Rector will arrange to meet with you beforehand to discuss the service and answer any questions you may have.

Children and Young People

Children are always welcome at St John’s.

Throughout the year there are opportunities for children and families to take part in worship and during term-time, there is a weekly Sunday Club, knows as Generation for Jesus, or G4J.

If you’d like to know more about activities for children and young people, please get in touch with Bob Adams, via the Parish Office.

Weddings

We are delighted to help couples prepare for Christian marriage.

If you are considering getting married at St John’s, please contact the Parish Office to arrange an initial conversation with the Rector. We will be happy to guide you through the process and answer any questions.

Funerals

The death of a loved one is one of life’s most difficult experiences.

The Church is here to offer prayer, practical support and pastoral care at this time. The Rector can help you plan a funeral service that reflects the life of the person who has died while proclaiming the hope of the Christian faith.

If a death has occurred, please contact the Parish Office. Outside office hours, our answering service provides emergency contact details.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4

Prayer

Sometimes people simply need someone to pray with them or for them.

If you would like prayer, or would appreciate a confidential conversation with a member of the pastoral team, please speak to the Rector or contact the Parish Office.
