About the Church of St John the Evangelist

For around 1,300 years, people have gathered on this site beside the Santry River to worship God.

While the parish has grown and changed over the centuries, it continues the tradition of prayer and welcome, serving the people of Coolock and the surrounding communities.

Whether you’re a lifelong member of the parish, new to the area, exploring the Christian faith, or simply visiting, you are warmly welcome to join us.

Service at 11:00am each Sunday
During school term-time, our Sunday Club, “Generation for Jesus” (G4J), takes place during the service.

Our Mission

As part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, we seek to share God’s love in our worship, our community, and our service to others. Our life together is inspired by the Anglican Communion’s Five Marks of Mission, which encourage us to:

History

The story of St John’s stretches back over thirteen centuries, making this one of the oldest sites of continuous Christian worship in the area.

Consecrated in 1760, the church preserves reminders of the area’s early history, including a granite cross, a millstone, and an inscribed gravestone dated 1688. It is also notable for its stained glass, with windows by Edward Burne-Jones, Morris & Co., Alfred E. Child, An Tur Gloine, and Mayer & Co. of Munich.

Our Parish Today

Today, St John’s is part of the Diocese of Dublin within the Church of Ireland.

We are grouped with All Saints’ Church, Raheny, under the leadership of the Revd Kevin Ronné,  and our congregations come together for various services, projects and fundraisers, including the Car Boot Sales, which take place on the grounds of All Saints’ from May to September.

  • Gathering for Worship

Each Sunday, we come together in the name of Christ to worship God, hear and receive God’s Word, seek forgiveness, pray for the needs of the world, and be strengthened by the Holy Spirit for lives of faithful service.

Whether you have worshipped in church all your life or are joining us for the first time, you are warmly invited to “Come and See”.

  • Music in our worship

Music has always been an important part of Christian worship, helping us to praise God, pray together, and reflect on our faith. At St John’s we enjoy a blend of traditional hymns and more contemporary songs.

The words of the hymns are displayed on screen during our services, with hymn books also available if that is your preference.

  • Donations
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap, for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” -Luke 6:38

Meet The Team

Along with Revd Kevin, we are fortunate to have two commissioned Diocesan Readers on our pastoral team, Lynn Adams and Joanne Kenny.  In addition to the pastoral team, there are many others giving of their time and sharing their gifts to support and enhance the life of our parish.  Among them are Select Vestry members, those who undertake readings in church, the catering team who serve our refreshments after service, and the many volunteers who run our fundraisers.  Not to mention those who attend and support our fundraising events.

Parish Office: 401A Howth Road, Raheny, Dublin 5, D05 WF59.  Office Hours: Tue – Fri, 9am – 2pm.  In person visits, Wed & Thur only.
